VIVAnews - Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's running mate Boediono suggested that the sharia economy should remain isolated from derivative products as it is in the conventional economy.

“One day, high-level collision between sharia and conventional activities where common conventional derivative products can be included in the sharia [product],”, Boediono said during the “Boediono Listens” discussion having “Syariah Economy” as its themre on Friday, June 19.

The Sharia economy, he added, must be prevented from being penetrated by derivative products.

“So far, we can count on the Sharia”, he said.

However, Boediono did not disregard the crucial role played by conventional economy in the national development.

“Like what Amartya Zen said, development is freedom. Economic development could liberate us from slavery”, he said.

Therefore, it is impossible to apply single economic system or repeal the non-sharia system.

“We have to be realistic. We want the sharia economy to be the only system. But in reality, it’s impossible”, Boediono said.

He also said that one of the realistic approaches is to improve the capacity of the sharia economy through taxes.

“The idea of co-existence has to be maintained in order to keep our economic activities move on. Encourage sharia economy yet upgrade the conventional economy”, he said.
