VIVAnews - The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) asked the Election Commission (KPU) to look into fund transfers over several political parties. However, the investigation should not only be launched during the campaign period.
“It has to be followed-up by conducting investigative auditing because the fund issue is the indicator of the elections' accountability and transparency” ICW Political Corruption coordinator, Fahmi Badoh said at the ICW office in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 1.
Badoh also said that currently KPU was still underestimating the fund issue. The problem was handled only by KPU's legal department.
In other countries, he added, campaign fund transfers were investigated not only during the campaign period, but also when the candidates were ruling.
“It was like when Richard Nixxon was ousted because of campaign fund. [The similar case] also hit Joseph Estrada in the Philippines”, he said.
Badoh suggested that if there were any violations proven, the candidates were not supposed to be allowed to participate in the elections.
According to the data obtained by ICW, the Democratic Party received 42 donations from unidentified individuals. In the Golkar Party, nine fictitious contributors, who donated Rp 7.3 billions, were found.
The National's Mandate Party (PAN) received donations from 22 fictitious contributors; the United Development Party (PPP) obtained 22 donations, and The People's Conscience Party (Hanura) gained donations from two unidentified funders.
