VIVAnews - Cilacap Harbor in Central Java was identified as one of the swine-flu-prone ports in Indonesia due to the fact that hundreds of people from Singapore, Australia and other countries conduct their activities at the harbor almost everyday.
Head of Swine and Bird Flu Task Force for the special district of Jogjakarta, Dr Sumardi, said today, Thursday, July 2, the H1N1 virus do not only spread through the airports, but also via harbors like in Cilacap.
“Although it's not as big as other harbors, a lot of people from Australia, Singapore, and other countries come to Cilacap everyday,” Sumardi said in Jogjakarta, a city in the central of Java, on Thursday, July 2.
The high possibility of the swine flu spread is also triggered by the absence of thermo scanner in Cilacap.
According to Sumardi, thermo scanners are quite ineffective in detecting swine flu patients because during the first day of infection, the patients would not experience extreme body temperature rise. Thermo scanners would not be effective until someone's body temperature raises above 38 Celsius degrees.
“Swine flu spreads faster than bird flu because it transmits from human to human instead of from animals to human,” he said.
