VIVAnews - The National Campaign Team of Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto revealed that there were 49 million voters whose names were not on the Permanent Voters List. The Election Commission (KPU) is still probing into the data by writing a letter to Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician, Eva Kusuma Sundari.
“We have sent the letter to Ms Eva who informed about the exclusion of 49 million voters,” KPU member, Abdul Azis, said at the Commission’s office on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jakarta on Friday, July 3.
According to Aziz, the Commision saw Sundari’s statement in a media. “Later we asked for a clarification on whether or not the statement is true”, he said.
If it is true, Aziz added, KPU would need the names and the address of the voters. “So we can fix it and prepare the logistics”, he said.
Meanwhile, Sundari has confirmed that KPU has indeed written to her. “Yes, I have received the letter”, she said. However, she would not give any response to it.
Besides Mega and Prabowo’s team, the campaign team of Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto has also complained about the issue. Wiranto even asked the elections to be delayed if the voters list problem is not solved.
Earlier, KPU, through Commissioner I Gusti Putu Artha said the exclusion of 49 million voters allegation did not make any sense because if the number of said voters was added to the number of voters on the Permanent Voters List, the total number would exceed the total number of Indonesian population.
