VIVAnews - Two days before the presidential elections, the Jakarta Police have been on guard. According to Jakarta Police chief, Inspector General Wahyono, his team was ready to secure the 2009 presidential elections.

“Due to the emerging issue of the Permanent Voters List (DPT) and the rising of political temperature, the riot risk would also be increasing,” Wahyono said while leading the squad assembly on July 6 at the Police Headquarters’ field on the preparation of guarding the presidential elections.

He also said that early detection was required in order to prevent disruptions.

“Such as voting booth vandalism, rallies, social conflicts, and riots”, he said.

The Police have created a strategy. They would assign the officers to guard every polling station, including the stations categorized as unsafe I and II, and launch patrols.

Safe polling stations are the ones that are close to the Police Headquarters. The unsafe I stations are located two hours away from the headquarters while the unsafe II booths are far and quite unreachable.

How about the risk of riots caused by the DPT issue?

“We have been observing the situation as of yesterday night. We ask the people not to be easily provoked,” Wahyono said.

The Jakarta Police have prepared 16 thousands of police officers for the Election Day. Twelve thousands of personnel will be placed at 30.347 polling stations, 4000 will stand by for preventive and mobile actions while the remaining 2000 will stay at the headquarters.
