Malaysia Arrests Immigrants Heading Indonesia

VIVAnews – The Malaysian security officers arrested 19 immigrants from Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who tries to enter Indonesia using an old boat on Tuesday, July 28.

According to the Selangor Police Marzuki Ismail, the police found the immigrants hid in the boat covered by canvas clothes when the police were patrolling in the water nearby the mangrove forest area on Sunday, July 26.

It is suspected that those 19 immigrants were part of the large immigrants group who were trying to go to Australia through Indonesia. Most of them were asylum seekers. Before they went to Indonesia, they gathered in Malaysia.

Based on the information, the 19 immigrants paid 4,000 ringgit per person. Meanwhile, two boat crews who were transporting the immigrants escaped by jumping into the water.

There were at least 14 immigrants who were taken into custody. Although they had official documents, they were sent into prison for several months because they tried to illegally leave the country.
