VIVAnews - The Indonesian government needs around US$10 million of fund per year to handle HIV/AIDS, said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono upon opening the 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) in Bali, on August 9.
"We're here to combat HIV/AIDS which has infects around 75 thousand people daily. There is a chance that there will be lost generation," said the Indonesian president.
It is expected that the government will emphasize actions on reducing terrorism, poverty and HIV/AIDS infection by 25 percent every year.
"Some countries manage to alleviate the case. we need more serious handling over the case," he said.
If no intervention is made within the next two years, more than two millions will be infected by HIV/AIDS.
Indonesia is home for around 18,000 HIV positive. They have undergone free AVR therapy. "In fact, 25 thousand have delivered their babies safely, without any HIV infection found," he said.
Today, more sufferers are more open for sharing thoughts with others.
The international seminar is attended by 3,000 participants from 51 Asian countries and 14 countries from the Pacific.
