VIVAnews - The pluralism in Indonesia is a good example for the Muslim community in the US according to Zeenat Rahman Mustafa, Interfaith Youth Core senior coordinator of program division in a discussion on multiculturalism in the US and Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday, Aug. 10. He sees that the Indonesian citizens maintain positive attitudes despite the diverse tribes, religions, and cultures.

He also explains that the US communities have been more aware to the Muslim community in the country after the 9/11 incident in 2001. "After Sept. 11, the US government realized [the Muslim community] and started to develop multiculturalism issues," he added.

However, he argues that his visit to Indonesia is a part of the US government's programs. "I came as a regular citizen," he said.

Interfaith Youth Core is a Chicago-based organization which was established to increase inter-religion and pluralism tolerance. Mustafa is an activist who often visits different countries as a part of IYC campaign in tolerance and pluralism issues.
