VIVAnews - The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) said state gas company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) would analyze the use of on-shore technology from the United States for the LNG Receiving Terminal project.

Three state companies are currently working on the LNG Receiving Terminal. They are the PGN, PT Pertamina and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). Until now, the project does not run properly while the three state-owned enterprises have been going through numbers of discussions.

“We’ll look at the technology,“ State Minister for BUMN, Sofyan Djalil said at his office on Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta on Monday, August 10, when asked about the possibility of PGN’s collaboration with the US Corporation.

According to him, during his visit to US with the PGN a while ago, he took a time to see the boat-based LNG Receiving Terminal technology in Houston. So far, the development of LNG terminal could be carried out in land and sea.

The on-shore technology development company also has similar facilities in Boston, Massachusetts and Argentina.

Based on his brief observation, Djalil said he was impressed by the technology because it was considered more efficient and economical due to the mobile characteristic of the LNG tanker.

“The interesting issue about this technology is the possibility of picking up small gas in the sea. The technology could create a processing facility in barges. Instead of pipes, LNG processing could be set up in the middle of the sea,“ the Minister said.

Djalil also said he still could not assure whether the PGN would utilize the technology. However, the government expects the LNG Receiving Terminal to be completed soon due to the shortage of gas supply in West Java and Medan, North Sumatra.

With regard to the temporary decision, which was quoted by Pertamina’s CEO, Karen Agustiawan, the building of LNG Receiving Terminal would be conducted by each company.

“They are all doing technical studies. So, we won’t be worried about procurement matters. But for North Sumatra, it’s the PGN that would manage it,“ Agustiawan said.
