VIVAnews - The Indonesian government was upset about the verdict passed by the court in Burma over the Burmese pro-democracy figure Aung San Suu Kyi.

"The government also considered that the 18-month house arrest was odd and unfair. In fact, the former security officers who were guarding (Suu Kyi) when she was under the previous house arrest was not instead brought before the court," said spokesperson of the Indonesian foreign affairs department Teuku Faizasyah.

The prolonged sentence over Suu Kyi, according to Faizasyah, was seemingly aimed at preventing the 64-year old woman from participating in the next elections. "This stresses the suspicion about the biased elections," said Faizasyah.

He also claimed that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) would hold a meeting to make a stance about the issue.
