VIVAnews - The government is optimistic that the economic growth in the third quarter of 2009 can still grow above 4 percent.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati says that the growth is still supported by the domestic consumption rate which is still considered good.

"If [we] see the second quarter, we are optimistic that the [economy] will still be growing in the third quarter," she said at the Finance Department on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Other than good consumption rate, the growth will also be boosted by the export and import activities and an improving investment. It will escalate in the end of 2009 due to the seasonal factors such as the Lebaran, fasting month, and Christmas, and the improving government's expenditure.

The Minister adds that the government has yet to set the percentage for the 2010 deficit.

The government along with the House of Representatives will see the deficit's necessity. "Since it relates to financing, we will look into it [deficit plan]. If it is used for high productivity activities, it may not be a proble," she added.
