VIVAnews - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono touched on the problem on terrorism in the official speech prior to the celebration of the Indonesian independence day at the parliamentary complex on Friday, August 14.

Yudhoyono, known by the acronym SBY, said the terrorists' acts of bombing in public spaces are inhumane and resulted in the death of innocent people.

"The terrorists want us to feel terrified all the time," SBY stated.

SBY emphasized that the nation will not be overcome by terrorism acts. Numerous terrorism acts that have been committed through the years did not bring down the rupiah and the share prices.

He claimed that the terrorists have applied new methods in committing their actions, that are aimed at striking against the state, "including the plan to assassinate the President."

However, he went on by saying that "the state cannot, and will not, lose against terrorism," said Yudhoyono.

"The government that I will preside over will keep running: to protect the people, to serve the people and to improve the well-being of the Indonesian nation," he said.

The plot to kill the President was foiled as the police raided the terrorist's safehouse hired by the number one Southeast Asian terrorism fugitive Noordin M Top's link at Jati Asih, Bekasi, West java, on August 8.

Police found 120 kilograms of explosives in the house. According to the information from one of the suspects Amir Abdillah, the bombs would be detonated in two spots: the presidential palace and the president's house.
