VIVAnews - The UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has sent a Ramadan message to all British Muslims, and to Muslim communities throughout the world. British Ambassador Martin Hatfull said: "It gives me great pleasure to extend those good wishes to all our Muslim friends in Indonesia, and to join him in wishing you Ramadan Mubarak"

"Today I wish you, your family, and all Muslim communities here in the United Kingdom and throughout the world, my sincerest best wishes for this the sacred month of Ramadhan," Brown said.

Brown went to say that, "Ramadhan is a time for family and friends.  A time when Muslims around the world focus more on others than themselves.  As you come together everyday for the next month to break the fast, thoughts will be of faith, families and togetherness.  It will also be a time for prayer, contemplation and reflection; a time to remember those who are less fortunate today."

Moreover, he stated that , "The message of compassion and justice is strong in the Islamic faith, not just in the holy month of Ramadhan.  It is an universal message that unites us all. " The Indonesian government has announced that the first day of Ramadhan will start on Saturday, August 22, which will signal the beginning of the fasting month.

Britain is a country of around 2 million Muslims in a Europe of over 20 million. Britain today is a better place because of its diversity and openness.  Its culture and society are stronger because of the contribution Muslims make everyday.

"As British Muslim communities across the United Kingdom prepare for Ramadhan, may I take this opportunity to say: may your Ramadhan be peaceful and blessed. Once again Ramadhan Mubarak to you all," Brown said.
