VIVAnews - Malaysia has claimed some forms of genuine cultural Indonesian tradition as belonging to the nation. Currently, the neighboring country uses the famous Pendet dance of Bali as their tourism icon as can be seen in an advertisement.

"It is not the first time. I can say that the action is a form of confrontation (against Indonesia). How come it continues to happen?" Indonesian notable artist Putu Wijaya said during a dialog in tvOne on Monday, August 24.

According to Putu, who was exchanging minds with Malaysian artist Raja Ahmad Amunillah, the Malaysian artists have to prepare a move. Further investigation over whether the issue deals with tourism business or governmental interest should be conducted.

"The artists wouldn't do such an act. If it is concerned with business, there should be compensation. If the government is behind the problem, then (the Indonesian) government must also respond," said the Indonesian prolific writer.

Putu viewed the incidents have annoyed the Indonesian people.

"This is not only a matter of cultural issue. We're offended," said Putu.

Malaysia has declared other forms of Indonesian cultural heritage as theirs such as Reog Ponorogo of East Java, Angklung of West Java, Batik and Rasa Sayange folk song.

According to a Balinese artist Wayan Dibia, the Malaysian tourism advertisement exhibited four Pendet dancers, which was recorded in Bali.

The record took place at Bedugul botanical garden, Tabanan, and was produced by Bali Record. "The sequence was taken three to four years ago. I know some of the dancers well. They are Lusia and Wiwik," he said.
