VIVAnews - The Dumai waters in Riau was polluted by crude palm oil spill emitted from the tanker ship, which is suspected owned by Marion Topaz Majuro from the Philippines. Until Aug. 30, the spill was still inundating the waters around the harbor area, turning the sea into yellowish color.

From the gathered information, the oil was spilled on Saturday, Aug. 29. Meriom Topaz Majuro tanker ship numbered IMO 9421336 was suspected over-loading when they loaded the CPO around 4 a.m. local time.

To clean the spill, a cleaning service officer at the harbor said that the Pelindo Dumai management asked the officer to clean the spill, using a 25-kilogram paint bucket from the dock.

The spill then resold for Rp 1,000 per kilogram. "We just collect them, if we have a lot, we can sell it to any company willing to buy," said a member of the community Toni who was also gathering the CPO spill using a bucket.

The spill was still visible on the floor and rear side body of Meriom Topaz ship. The ship crews who are mostly foreigners did not give any comment on this issue.
