VIVAnews - The victims of the mud outflow in Sidoarjo, East Java, highly appreciated the commitment the Bakrie family has in settling its liabilities to them.

"I really appreciate Bakrie family's efforts in paying off their liabilities for every victim," said a representative of Lapindo Mudflow Victim Association Khoirul Huda said last week.

While police has issued temporary suspension investigation letter of the mudflow case, PT Lapindo Brantas still granted compensation to the victims.

Earlier, the Supreme Court decided to refuse the lawsuit filed by Indonesia Legal Advocacy Foundation concerning the mud outflow in Sidoarjo.

Huda said the victims are now in better condition and have more secure life. "You should visit us. We're now in better condition," said Huda.

However, there are a small number of people who are still protesting about the insignificant value of compensation given.

"They have objected to (the amount of compensation given). In fact, the finger should be pointed at them for not following the compensation settlement program since the very beginning," he said.

Huda added that most of the dissatisfied victims do not have valid documents of land ownership. "They have been acting as if they are victims' representatives," he said.

PT Lapindo Brantas Vice President Yuniwati Teryana said the company respected any verdict passed.

Yuniwati said Lapindo has settled 20 percent payment of the promised amount for the submitted 12,886 files. In addition, 80 percent payment of the promised amount have been settled for 11,215 files.

The 80 percent payment applied either cash and carry or cash and resettlement methods.
