VIVAnews - The children of Beroro village, Kembar bridge, Lembar Lombok, West Lombok has a unique game they usually play at night on fasting months. It is called the Fire War.
Yesterday, August 30, after praying at the mosque, the children did not go straight home. Instead, they gathered on a wide ground in the middle of the rice field. Some of them carried a torch and a bucket filled with hundreds of corns. They would use these things in the play.
“We’re going to have a fire war,” one of the players, a 12-year-old Hamdan said.
The torches were set up to light the ground during the play. Before the war commenced, they divided themselves into two groups.
Afterwards, they parted. Using the fire from the torches, they burned the corns and throw them to their opponents.
“Be careful, don’t let the fire burn your sarong and your face,” one of the children yelled.
As soon as the game begun, the fire was thrown everywhere. Some of them hit the children’s sarong and skin. However, it did not stop them from playing.
The game grabbed the attention of the local residents. The children looked more enthusiastic when they knew they had audiences.
The locals support the game as it is done in the middle of the rice field which is far away from the houses and will not cause any fire.
“The game is played in the beginning of the fasting months. In previous years, the game was played until before sahur time,” one of the adults in Beroro village said.
