Krakatau was established in 1984 in Bandung and has not stopped being creative, making themselves as a part in the Indonesian music history for their 25-year creative process. Established by Dwiki Dharmawan, Pra B Dharma, Budhy Haryono and Donny Suhendra, several artists have joined to perform with this band, such as Harry Moekti, Ruth Sahanya, Gilang Ramadhan, Indra Lesmana and Trie Utami.
A quite frontal change happened in 1992 when the formation was grouped back to Dwiki, Pra, Budhy Haryono and Trie Utami, they explored the traditional music, especially in Sundanese music. The change eventually led their debut to the international realm. Krakatau performed internationally with their pieces from their albums: Mystical Mist, Magical Match, 2Worlds and Rhythm of Reformation. They also participated in several jazz festivals like World music festival and arts festivals, such as North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Sziget Festival, Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, Vancouver Jazz, Guanajuato Festival in Lincoln Center for The Performing Arts. Krakatau then became one of the 'Visit Indonesia Year 2008' and 'Visit Indonesia Year 2009' ambassadors. Vocalist Ubiet joined in 2004 in Krakatau North American Tour when Trie Utami resigned. The 25-year-memorabilia will be showcased in Bentara Budaya Jakarta to mark the long journey of the band.
