VIVAnews – The tropical storm Parma activity in the northern side of the Earth on the South China Sea and the tropical storm Melor on the Pacific Ocean on the eastern side of the Philippines are still moving until today, Thursday, Oct. 8.
Both storms affect the atmospheric conditions in Indonesia, mainly in the northern and western part, and also areas along the equator. Other than that, the Dipole Mode condition in the Indian Ocean, western part of Sumatra is still negative and the MJO is active in the central and eastern part of Indonesia.
The sea temperature in the Indian Ocean on the western part of Sumatra, South China Sea, and Pacific Ocean is still warm enough to supply sufficient water vapor to areas in Indonesia.
The humidity is quite high in most areas in the country; therefore it triggers the developing of nimbus clouds, mainly in the western and northern part of the country, and also areas along equator.
The convective activities with high temperature in the daylight should be monitored since it is potential to create heavy rain with strong wind and lightning in a short time.
Areas, which are prone to heavy rain with lightning and strong wind, are:
- western coast of Sumatra
- most of Sumatra
- eastern coast of North and Central Sumatra
- western part of Java
- western, eastern, and central part of Kalimantan
- western, central, and southern part of Sulawesi
- most of Maluku
- western, northern, eastern part of Papua
