Death Toll Reaches 809

Most victims were found in Padang Pariaman regency reaching 359 bodies.

VIVAnews- Numbers of death victims of 7.9-magnitude earthquake in West Sumatra have risen to 809. West Sumatra provincial government also said 241 people still remain missing.

Based on the data received by VIVAnews on Monday, October 12, most victims, according to the provincial government, were found in Padang Pariaman regency where 359 bodies were discovered. In Padang, the earthquake killed 316 people.

In Agam regency, the death toll reaches 80, while 37 death victims were found in Pariaman, 9 victims in South Coast regency, 3 victims in Solok, 3 victims in West Pasaman regency and 2 victims in Solok regency.

Padang Pariaman regency is also where most of missing persons come from, reaching 237 people. They were said to be buried after the landslide occured in three sub districts in Padang Pariaman regency and several other locations in the region. Meanwhile, it is reported that there were four people still missing in Padang.

Total number of collapsed buildings due to the earthquake reaches 135,333 while 62,852 houses were mildly damaged and 66,852 others had minor defects.

The amount of destroyed education facilities reaches 2,073 units, in which 1,306 were fairly damaged and 1,115 were lightly damaged. Numbers of health care facilities that suffer from major, mild and minor breakdowns reaches 35 units each.

The earthquake also knocked down 241 government office buildings. Public services at the offices were carried out in emergency shelter tents after the disaster occurred.
