VIVAnews - Acision is a messaging specialist company from Berkshire, England, that provides solutions for telecommunication operators all over the world. Based on compiled reports, on the recent Eid el-Fitr Day, their system sent 3.4 billion short messages within 72 hours.
The numbers are a 244 percent increase compared to last year when Acision delivered 1.4 billion messages from and to cellular users in Indonesia.
“As usual, on big days, the volume of SMS traffic rises sharply because the users send greetings to their families and friends,” Senior Vice President and General Manager of Acision Asia Pacific, Mark Williams said in a press release quoted by VIVAnews on October 12.
“That’s why the operator needs SMSC with high performance to be able to control the escalation of SMS traffic,” Williams said.
Currently, 8 out of 10 world’s biggest operators are using SMSC from Acision. Built on open text architecture, Acision’s SMSC could be adjusted to handle messages with substantial volumes in the matter of seconds even if the volumes of the messages increase significantly.
For mobile operators, text messaging is a mass market reaching facility that has constantly expanding volume from year to year.
“Generally, SMS has been one of the main services which allow operators in Indonesia to gain profit and achieve business development stability,” Williams said. “SMS have changed the habit of the customers who used to send greeting cards”
As one of mobile market with a rapid growth in South East Asia, Indonesia has an estimated 144.64 million mobile customers with almost 60 percent of penetration rate.
