VIVAnews - At the very last seconds of his vice presidential office, Vice President Jusuf Kalla called on his replacement Boediono to be a 'co-driver' for President-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono instead of being only a spare. Kalla uttered the statement during a speech in the Vice Presidential Palace on Monday, Oct 19.
"A spare will only be in store. It only functions when a vehicle deals with a problem," said Kalla metaphorically.
A passive vice president, said Kalla, in fact violates the Constitution. I will as a result cause the vice president to remain inactive and does nothing. "Whoever they are deeming of the vice president as a spare are violators of the constitution," he said.
Kalla said he understood that during his office he was considered as exceeding the authority. But, he said, "I don't wanna assert myself."
He claimed that if a vice president works as if he/she were a co-driver, an ultimate goal will come into being in terms of nation development.
"Everyday, people's expectations are growing. The better a nation, the greater people's expectation," he said.
