VIVAnews - Malaysian energy and electricity company, Malacof Corporation, which has been supplying 25 percent of the country’s electricity, is interested in establishing a Steam-Powered Power Plant (PLTU) in Peranap, Indragiri Hulu regency, Riau.
The statement was delivered by Malacof representative, Datuk Osman, to the reporters after meeting with the delegations of Riau provincial government, Deputy Governor HR Mambang Mit and the province’s regional development agency head, Emrizal Pakis at the Riau Governor’s office on Tuesday, October 20.
According to Osman, if nothing gets in the way, his company would be able to complete the 2x200 megawatt plant with the total production energy of 400 MW in four years, starting from the day the Mou was signed by Malacof and Riau provincial government.
This is a new hope for Riau to escape from the electricity crisis the province is currently dealing with.
Meanwhile, Mambang explained that Malakof is a reputable company in Malaysia. “Looking at Malacof’s performance in its country, we are sure Malacof will be able to build the plant to overcome the crisis in Riau,“ he said.
Mambang also said the chance of Malacof and Riau provincial government performing collaboration is really high, considering the province’s potential which would be one of the appeals for investors to invest their money besides market certainty.
“We already have a definite market because Riau is in high need of electricity right now. As for natural potential, especially coal for the plant, Riau also has them. That’s why Malacof has no doubt,” Mambang said as reported by tvone.
The plant will have the power of 2x150 MW or be able to supply 20 percent of Riau’s electricity.
As for the funding, Mambang said Malacof is not having any problem due to the consortium from the bank. “This is one of our attempts to get out of the electricity crisis. Hopefully it could be done soon,” he said.
