VIVAnews - Thirty one countries of the world will be promoting Solo’s signature batik. The endorsement will be done by 50 foreign college students in their home countries who are currently visiting three batik centers in Solo.
The students are the recipients of Indonesian Art and Cultural Scholarship (BSBI) from the Foreign Affairs Department.
“They are amazed by us, they felt comfortable with our greetings and they are ready to promote Solo’s batik in their countries,” Head of Solo Art and Cultural Agency, Purnomo Subagyo, told VIVAnews in Solo.
According to him, before the students promoting the batik, they would visit three top batik centers in Solo which are Kampung Wisata Batik Kauman, Kampoeng Batik Laweyan and Klewer Market.
“The visit will also motivate batik painters to keep creating new and unique batik prints,“ Subagyo said.
The promotion will not only increase the popularity of batik overseas, but also the three batik centers as tourism destinations. “Moreover, other small and medium-sized businesses would also benefit from the promotion because everything is connected to each other, especially batik and cultural tourism, “Subagyo said.
The 50 students are coming from the US, England, Timor Leste, Vietnam and various European and Asian countries. “It’s also to find future export target,” he said.
Earlier, the students performed Indonesian traditional dances at the 2009 Indonesia Channel in Pura Mangkunegaran Palace in Solo.
